Spotlight on Inclusive Excellence: Oscar Chamos

Our spotlight this month is turned on Associate Professor of history Oscar Chamosa and his history students, with special thanks to the Athens Historical Society. HIST 3140/H class in U.S. Latinx History collaborated up with the Athens Historical Society to celebrate Latinx heritage with a special poster project. The poster is currently on display for a limited time in the History Department.

UGA students Martin Ames, VerĂ³nica Carrielo-Villar, Cheryl Knowles, and Camryn Collier brought the project to life through their research and design. The poster was proudly presented at the Latinx Fest in downtown Athens, sharing history and culture with the community.

Chamosa's current research is the history of Habitat for Humanity in Latin America. He is am exploring how a housing project that began in Southern Georgia became a model for global community housing, especially in Latin America. In addition to social housing my related interest areas are human rights, popular culture, popular religion and nationalism in Latin America.
